GSM Alarm from old mobile phone Nokia 3310, 6210 (GSM Relay, dialer)

A simple and cheap solution for the GSM Alarm.. This will work with any alarm system since it connects to the Alarm panel BEL output. Basically its triggered when the alarm siren is on. This is also good solution for people that have VOIP service and can’t get alarm panel to work over the phone line.

Any old mobile phone would work which supports: speed dial/one touch dial, and non-lock keypad. Older Nokia are great for this: 3310, 6210, 6250 etc. On some phones you can wire the OK button if one touch dial not supported. For Siemens phone check a link at end of post. Easy way to test: hold any of 2-9 buttons and see if phone dials. NOTE: DO NOT use 1, most phones are programmed to call the emergency line: aka 911.

What you need… A Nokia 3310, charger, 12v relay ..

programming the phone:

  1. make sure you have the ringer set to silent all so one touch answer turned off and one touch dial or speed dial turned on.
  2. program your number under speed dialing for number 9. Test if before proceeding. (when you press and hold 9 the phone should call the number)

Disassemble the 3310 phone

Wire 2 small wires to number 9 place. Make sure you solder one wire inner circle, other wire outside circle.

Connect the relay

relay wiring: wires from the cell phone connect one wire to the NO terminal and the next wire to the C terminal (does not matter witch way the wires are put in). Connect a wire from the Alarm Bell +  to the + on relay board and now connect a wire from the Alarm Bell – to the on relay board as well. The way this works is: once the relay gets power one + and – connector, it will short NO and C terminals.

If you are new to this, get one of these from Ebay.. its easier and looks nicer.

wire the relay wires to panel’s BEL +/- ( BEL + = relay board +, and BEL – = relay board –) on your alarm panel (as you would wire alarm siren).

pack everything, used hot glue to secure everything.

Activate the alarm and test the system.. The phone will call you once the siren is activated by the alarm. note: I would get fresh new battery for Nokia 3310 and good charger.
